Question:
This sat. night i hit my head pretty hard on a brick wall. I blacked out for about 10 seconds and have no memory of the event. From what my friends told me i was taken home by a buddy and was sleeping about a half hour after i fell. (I know that's not good but at least i didn't go into a coma) And yes... alcohol was involved. Anyways its now wed. and i still have symptoms. Since i hit my head i've had a pretty constant mild headache, and i've been real tired. I almost feel like i'm sick. Although i never once felt as if i was going to throw up. I went to the doctor today, told him everything and he didn't seem too concerned. Anyways he ended up ordering a ct scan just cause i kinda talked him into getting me one hovever i won't be able to have the scan till next monday. Is that too long to wait... could something develope like a clot if i wait too long to get it checked? And if i do have something like a clot could it be too late if i have to wait till monday?
Answers:
see a doctor
If you had a bleed in your brain that would lead to a clot, you would have the worst headache of your life. Doctors can tell if there is any swelling in the brain by looking into the back of your eyeball, assessing for stiffness in the neck, and detecting changes in cognitive-linguistic status. A CT at this point is totally unnecessary, and is likely to be denied by your insurance company, so you'll be stuck with a bill for $1200 for a test you didn't need in the first place! You probably have a very mild concussion, so take it easy. Consult your doctor if your symptoms get worse, and don't forget to cancel the CT appointment!
