A question about doctors and the death penalty?
Question:
isn't there are conflict because of the hippocratic oath?
Are doctors who work in the administering of the death penalty allowed to call themselves doctors?
Answers:
Huge conflict with the Hippocratic oath. For more about this issue, you should google Dr. Arthur Zitrin, a leader in the fight to make sure that doctors do not participte in executions.
I think the idea is that it's a nicer way to kill a person compared to the other ways there are but you bring up a good point.
most executions are carried out by med-techs and other types of trained medical personnel- at least that is what I have been told- for the same reason you stated.
Excellent point.
The funniest part to me is that they still swab the prisoner's arm with disinfectant!
the oath is only there because the government says so and they say its ok for doctors to give leathal injections(remember they make the rules)
i am sure they are allowed to be called doctors. they have to administer the thing to see if they are dead. i dont' think they give the button a pull i think its someone else they jsut check to see if they are dead. by hearing heart beats but remember you sometimes can't hear it at certain times so it could be possible they are still alive right?
