Why does it matter how long you ice your swollen cheeks, say after getting your wisdom teeth cut out?

Question:
everyones telling me not to ice for more than 24 hours, and i'm wondering why that is

Answers:
Don't ice for longer than 24 hours because after that the ice will not help the swelling go down any further. That swollen size will be the size you are until you're healed. Make sure you DO NOT drink through a straw. You will get dry sockets which will hurt worse than you ever thought the wisdom teeth extraction did. (http://www.webmd.com/hw-popup/dry-socket... If you keep bleeding from your wounds, place dry tea bags on them for 15 minutes. Other than that, enjoy the pain relievers and loaf on your couch for a few days.
I have no clue, but I had all four of mine out at the same time, and I never iced. I just took the medicine they gave me and drank ice water through a straw. It worked much better because it could get closer to the swollen areas.
it is suppose to heal cover over and it should start healing and be not too painful. it should start to recover in 24 hours.
