Hangover problems..?
Question:
This has happened twice in the past month, both times were the only times i drank.
The amount of alcohol involved was about 150ml (4x500 ml beer, 7%). Accompanied with a good meal, and some water.
Im not a regular drinker, and have never fainted before.
Anyone know what the problem is?
Answers:
The only thing I can think of is dehydration. Were you urinating (or vomiting) a lot the previous night? If you were, the sudden act of standing up the next morning may cause orthostatic hypotension ("blood rushing out of the brain"), making you feel faint.
The best treatment, of course, is LOTS of water. My personal policy is to never fall asleep with a buzz (and obviously to moderate my drinking so I don't get to the point of feeling nauseous). As my buzz fades, I start drinking good amounts of water. If I got significantly drunk that night, I'll go through at least a quart (32 oz.) of water, often much more.
In my opinion, that helps me flush the alcohol's irritating metabolic byproducts (including acids that can make you ache later on). Of course, it also keeps one hydrated for the night. This has greatly helped me avoid hangover, so you might want to try it.
A sports drink (such as Gatorade) might also be even better for some part of your rehydration (once you're done "flushing", put in a little electrolyte to help you retain water and not pass out the next morning).
If this does not help, speak with your physician ASAP. What raises a flag for me is that this appears to be something new for you. So please take care.
