What could be wrong with my knee?

Question:
About a month and a half ago to 2 months ago, I went out walking with a friend, mostly on a paved flat trail, but we did venture off the trail to hike through the woods.. nothing strenuous really. The next day, my knee was really hurting (never hurt before that, except for a lonnnng time ago, about 15 years ago or so). Ever since that next day, it's been bothering me. It's fine when I'm standing and walking around or sitting in a chair, but when I go to get up out the chair it hurts pretty bad, same if I am sitting on the floor or the bed and I have it bent (usually fine while it's bent) and then go to straighten it out it is quite painful. Once it's straightened out or I get up, it's fine. Walking up and down steps also seems to make it hurt. I asked my doctor and he just suggested that I take Advil for it, but that doesn't seem to help and sometimes it is really quite a piercing, sharp pain deep inside the knee, sometimes more in front, sometimes more in back. Any idea what's wrong?

Answers:
theres a tear in the cartilage in your knee, the doctor can scope it and repair it, you off feet 2 weeks, light duty approx 2 months after that.
fractured ur knee or damaged joints maybe? try x-ray
Hi Jersey, It sounds like it's your knee cap! You need to have your doctor ex-ray the knee and see if anything show-up.If not they will shot dye in your knee so they can see what is going on with your knee cap. I have had 3 surgery on my right knee from a sport accident in High School in a Volley Ball game.Anyway i had my 1st surgery 2 years after my fall The main Ligament that holds your knee and the main bone wasn't there and they couldn't figure how i was able to walk on it. A year later i had my 2nd surgery and this time my knee cap was removed it had small chips of bone all over in my knee.29 years has passed and my 3rd surgery was a totally knee replacement. I have to exercise my bad knee everyday until i die. So please get ex-ray of your hurt knee. I know for a fact if you hurt your knee you will always have trouble with it your life time. Take care and be careful... A Friend Who Know!
