Answers:
If you're not feeling sure maybe you should get a second opinion?
well, did he tell you why? You shoul dbe clear about what is going on...if not, go back and ask!
I've had that, but not for such a long period of time.

Streching excercises might help. I think it's a circulation problem, especially if you sit very long.
Sciatic nerve?
I get a lot of left sciatic pain and I can trace a numb area right down the upper part of the nerve pathway.
You may be describing sciatica, but such a cursory history with no examination does not make a diagnosis safe or reliable.
If you don't feel comfortable with one doctor there are MILLIONS of others, find another one.
i have a similar problem, my outer thigh , like the front of my thigh has very little sensation over an area of about the size of my hand or a little more, i can feel pain like from a needle say, but not someone touching my leg there. i have never figured out exactly whyits that way but it has been that way since i was 18 (im 28 now) and started after having lifted something to heavy for me. it has never improved much but it has not gotten worse either. i wouldnt worry to much about it but if you find that you cant stop being concerned you should just go back to the doctor for peace of mind.
