How do I clean painful sun burned skin?

Anyway, I'm cooked! Luckily my kids weren't burnt that bad thank the Lord. I have some small blisters on my shoulders too.
I was burned badly Sunday afternoon. I've been putting the green slimy stuff on it and it helps some. I keep it in the fridge so it is nice and cool, yet it still hurts to put it on.
The problem is the green gunk dries in layers on my sun burn. I tried today to lightly pat it with a damp wash cloth but it was to painful.
My husband says I just need to wait it out since I told him a shower would hurt like crazy.
Is there any way to safely clean my sun burned skin? I still hurt like crazy at times and it is awful at night since the dried green med stuff sticks to the sheets! Talk about PAIN!

I feel your pain, litterally, went to the pool yesterday and the same thing happened. First, I have been wearing dresses or loose fitting clothing so it does not rub. I took a cold shower cause the warm water hurt more than I could imagine. It also burns because it's dry. I put regular lotion on it about once an hour and alternate it with the aloe gel (green stuff) that is cool. Then I put the lotion on before bed so it stays moistured up without me sticking to the sheets. Good luck ,it should tan in a few days

i think the only way to clean it is to have some pain and soak it off... anyhting that rubs at it will be worse for you...
if you can try soaking in a cold bath (as cold as you can bear!!) cos i think that will be less painful...
put a little pure lavender oil in the bath too as this will help sooth, about 5-8 drops is plenty.
if you have a spray bottle you could also make yourself up some lavender water buy adding 10 drops to 100ml water, shake before you spray and spray lightly onto burnt areas...
if you can get some PURE vitamin E, i get it in a small bottle from my local health shop, but at worst you should be able to buy some capsules of it from any pharmacy and prick them open with a pin/needle to extract the oil... this is the most amazing stuff to heal with burns and in fact any skin damage. i was recommended it by a plastic surgeon after surgery for a dog bite to the face and have used it ever since, often resulting in amazement from doctors because of quick healing of scars.. i always use it isf i catch the sun
unfortunately it doesn't help with the pain, and is also a little sticky, but should be fine if you apply it a good hour before bed as it will just soak in..
