LEG Cramps: Painful. What to do?

Question:
In the middle of the night, all of a sudden when stretching my leg, the bottom part calf starts to harden and it's so painful. I have to massage it back to soften and this is difficult to do it the muscle is straining.

What is the cause? And any way to stop it or prevent it?

Answers:
It is caused by having hypokalemia or low potassium. You can eat more fruit, i.e. bananas, get more H20 during the day also. A lot of times, especially after a lot of activity or in the summer, you can get dehydrated and lose a lot of electrolytes (potassium). So stay hydrated and you can also stretch before you go to bed.
Ugh--this has been happening to me too, lately. I have just switched from a standing/walking job to a sit-down one. Maybe the muscles aren't getting stretched enough because of sitting. Also, I hear not drinking anough water, and not getting enough potassium (found in bananas) are other causes.

Do you wear high heels? When I wear them after not wearing them for a while, is another cause for me. Anyway, good luck!
Drinking enough water through the day may help. Also I read an article by Dr. Gott that placing a regular bar of soap under your sheet will stop the leg cramps, I'm not kidding. Many people tried it and wrote to the Dr' thanking him for this advice.
Won't hurt to give it a try
I have to take pain releavers for mine but you can use heating pads or ice packs to numb it streacting before bed also helps. Although you have to make shure if you are using a heating pad not to fall asleep with it or you might get burned. Try bananas before activity or in the moring. Iv also head about soap in the bed Iv never tried it and it sounds like a load of bull but you never know.
Not drinking anough water, and not getting enough potassium (found in bananas) are common causes. Mine improved with adding these things to my daily routine. I also started walking which helped a lot.
It's called a charlie horse, I get them all the time. It happens when you tense your muscles in your sleep on you calve, and it HURTS. So bad I sometimes scream. Just stretch out your leg slowly and it will go away.
Its nothing serious though. Just your muscle spazzing.,
i get those all the time and its nothing cause your lacking a vitamin or something, for me its because im growing so yea i get those once in a while but my mom gets them and them its just a normal thing . they hurt like crazy it feels like someone is squeezing your muscle so hard and they dont stop lol
