One joint is equivalent to 5 cigs. And there was an article I remember reading from Reader's Digest, you lose about 5 minutes of your life per cigarette smoked. Not to mention that the more you smoke, the more the lining of your trachea changes from ciliated epithelial cells to squamous cells. The ciliation are fingerlike structures that produce mucous and sort of sweeps away any foreign objects that gets in your throat. Having replaced the cilia with squamous (flattened) cells, you are at high risk for pneumonia to name one possible ailment you could get.

Anytime you inhale smoke into your lungs, you can cause damage. There have been studies that show chronic use of marijuana may cause memory problems.
