Ruptured achilles. In plaster. Can I build up heal to enable me to walk or will that slow down healing?

Question:

Answers:
If the cast you are in doesn't have a heel built into the bottom, then they don't want you walking on it just yet or trying to bear weight on that leg. For the first bit the healing goes best if the tendon is allowed to heal completely without the additional stress of walking and weight bearing. Once it has healed, you will be put into a walking cast or an orthopedic shoe that will allow you to walk again on that foot, and start physical therapy to strengthen it again. In the meantime, follow the doctor's directions and don't try to do things to "help" assist nature. Usually the body does best when left to do on it's own, without your help.
Do exactly what your doctor tells you!
Do only what your Doctor told you. Follow your Doctor's instructions ONLY.
If you are in a non-weight bearing cast(on crutches) you SHOULD not be walking. You will be in your cast for weeks longer becasue you are making that newly fixed achilles tendon work, which means that it is not going to heal quickly. So do as your DOCTOR says!
