What is the best way to stop swelling?

Question:
I have recently broken my leg (femur, tibula, fibula) and was wondering what the best way to stop or reduce the swelling is and how long I should stay off the leg. After four weeks I am working 8 hour days and driving, am I rushing myself and risking further injury?

Answers:
OUCH!
Well my best friend broke his hip playing hacky sack. ya funny he he but it sucked to watch. The doctor told him to ice it every now and then to keep the swelling down and so it takes some of the pain away. Hopefully you DID go to the doctors office and they should have told you. But when my best friend did they told him to stay off it as much as possible and he couldn't get rid of his crutches for a month, but when it bothered him really bad he should sit and let it rest and maybe ice it 4-6 times a day.
good luck! and I hope icing it helps
icing it will help reduce the swelling. i would ask your doctor whether you should be working so soon. i wouldn't think it'd be good, but your doctor would know best
can i ask you a question? from that injury how can you be back at work that soon? i mean no harm asking you this because i did the same last Aug, motorcycle accident and broke my tibula and fibula also have 2 plates keeping my leg together and not worked since. how in the heck did you pull this off. i was bed ridden for 4 months and 6 months of therapy, please let me know your story.
you need to keep it elevated. Ice is not going to help much now that it is an old injury. Elevating will reduce swelling though. Lie down on a couch and put a pillow under your knee to raise your leg a little. You should probably be taking it easy with work too.
