Three Questions I Have About Slipped Discs In Back?

Question:
My grandmother, Aunt, and Mother all have slipped discs. The line goes further down the family tree. Is this genetic? I am seventeen years old and am already getting back pains from simple tasks, as my mother described hers beginning before she slipped her first disc when she was in her twenties. Pain shooting at times, uncomfortable, etc. What are the odds of me accidently slipping one if I'm not careful? What can I do to prevent this from happening? Also -- I come from a very low income family. My mother has lived with slipped discs and random tremors for years but on average she can work, lift things, despite being told not to [she'll get spasms through her legs and arms now about every five-six months that last for hours, jumping and pressing on nerves and I know it's because she can't afford not to work so she pushes herself too hard sometimes] and we can't afford medicine so she's deals with every stabbing pain everyday. What can I buy to help her? Is there anythink I can do?

Answers:
teach your mom and yourself certain stretching exercises, slow at first, limber the back muscles.. also my ex wife had the same problem awhile ago, i bought her a 12inch by 10 inch pillow that she used for sleeping between her legs, that relieves tons of pressure back there, goodluck to all of you
Get your mother to apply for social security disability. It may take a few years but with that package comes medical coverage that she so sorely needs.
Not knowing you or your mother I would ask if you (or her) are overweight? If so, try to drop those extra pounds and take some of the stress off of your back. When picking something up, bend at the knees and squat - do not bend at the waist or lean over something and lift with arms outstretched. Try not to twist while holding anything even slightly heavy - and do stretching exercises several times a day. Find some strengthening exercises for backs/shoulders/legs and work them in as often as possible - but don't overdo it. Tell your mother to check with her physician - they sometimes have samples that the drug reps give them and she should not be shy about asking for them rather than living in pain. There are also indigent drug programs that you can apply for, specifically put out by the drug companies for people who cannot afford medications - no shame in it, that is what it is for. Good luck to both of you.
Most states and the county will provide low income working people, especially those who have children under 18 yrs, a medical/health program and this will usually included a certain amount towards Physical Therapy.
A slip disc can be tightened to stay in place with proper stretches/exercisers designed especially for the disc in question. You have to be serious about this because it takes time and a daily/steady routine for it to work.
An inflamed disc can be settled down quickly with an ice pack and rest which will reduce the pain.
Some slip disc may require surgery/fusion and today's type of fusions are a lot more flexible allowing a more natural movement.
I have 2 fusions (neck & low back) and I know the pain.
Seek medical treatment.
