Ankle Swelling - red/blue/purple/stiff/itc...

Question:
when i get on the treadmill my trainers sometimes dig into the back of my ankle, causing a blister. So i tend to put a plaster for protection over my ankle. I ran out of plasters with the white cushioning and instead had some of those red plasters that dont have a cushioning. i kept them on all night because i thought i'm going to have a run in the morning too. When i took the plasters off they were stuck hard onto the skin and it was quite painful taking the plasters off. For the first 4/5 days the back of my ankles were really itchy and red and there was a slight rise of skin exactly in the area where hte plasters were (this is on both ankles). Now its been a week, my ankles have swollen up a lot. its not painful to walk generally unless the skin on the back of the ankle is scrunching up. the skin is purple/bluish and very stiff and It is incredibly itchy. It's been a week since i pulled the plasters off and since today my throat has swollen up and i have a fever (if related)

Answers:
is sounds like youre allergic to the red plasters. If your throat is closing up, you need to seek medical attention immediately!! If left, the tissues turning colors and swelling could become necrotic (they may die)

Itching, swelling, fever, and redness around the site of contact are classic signs of a delayed allergic reaction. Just because you didnt react immediately does not mean you arent allergic, and the allergy itself may only be mild.
I would recommend making an appointment with your primary care physician in the very near future and be sure to take a box of the red plasters in with you.
For now, take a benadryl (diphenhydramine) if your ankles continue to swell (not to mention your throat...call 911 if that happens again) Ice will also help reduce the swelling, cover your ankles with a cloth layer between the ice. Leave that on for 20 minutes then leave it off for 20 minutes. That should get you through until you can see a doctor.*
And buy different shoes
Most likely you had an allergic reaction to the adhesive. Since it has been some time and you are continuing to have increasing symptoms, you should see a health care provider. It is possible I suppose that you could be getting cellulitis, some other type of infection, or the allergic reaction for some reason has not resolved. Personally, I would go to the doctor soon.
