Over the counter hydrocodone?
Question:
Answers:
you can take up to 4 ibuprofen (200mg) tablets 3 times a day. that is the same as prescription strength ibuprofen. Not going to be as good as hydrocodone of course but it should help.
you might try taking benedryl along with it. that will make you sleepy and that might help.
is there another dr you can go to? the er might write you out a scrip. you could also check with your pharmacist and see what they reccomend.
hydrocodone is very addictive though. were you taking the original prescription as directed? if you ran out of it too soon the dr. may be worried.
those are the only otc pain relievers that i think would work. When you take the advil start with 3. I was told this by a dentist for toothaches. Your dr doesn't want you to get addicted. It happens very easily. You may have went thru your pain pills a little too fast for his liking
Contact your doctor about WHY he won't let you get a refill. It may be for a good reason like addiction to the medicine, amount your body can handle, etc. I would suggest getting a second opinion from another doctor of his rank or higher who may also know about the surgery and pain medicine needed.
Hope this helps, and I hope you get relief for your pain soon,
Brandi
There is nothing comparable to hydrocodone otc. If you are still having this much pain, you should call your doctor and ask to be seen. There may be something wrong. You should not have to suffer with severe pain when there are so many options available these days. In the meantime, you could try alternating Advil with Tylenol.
how long has it been since surgery? if it hasnt been that long ask dr who did surgery why it still hurts so bad if it has been a long time. if not try waiting a bit longer. if still nothing go find a new dr.
keep your foot elevated higher then your heart...I would try some type of sleep aid to help you sleep...they work just as good as the prescription ambien.if the surgeon won't give you another prescription how about your pcp?
put some ice on your foot.
ice is an excellent antiinflammatory & pain reliever. I had shoulder surgery & the surgeon had me using ice every few hours in addition to using my pain meds.
if you gobbled up your pain prescription too quickly, that's why you aren't getting any more. your doctor won't fill it any faster. he doesn't want you getting addicted or giving/selling it to someone else. (he doesn't know what you're doing with it if you use it up too fast)
you may ask him for some Tramadol in the meantime... it's still a decent pain reliever, but much less addictive.
and yes, if it's been more than a few days or weeks since surgery, you should get an appt to see him for followup to be sure there is not an infection or something causing the pain.
