Why does my leg fall asleep when I play my guitar?
Question:
Answers:
Maybe you lean too much on your guitar that is sitting on your leg cutting off circulation.
Sounds like a nerve is being pinched after sitting for a certain period of time. You can try a chiropractor they really help.
idunno?
I think that cast iron guitar you bought on sale might have been a mistake. Seriously, it happens all the time when I play my electric guitar without the strap on, but I don't remember it happening with the classical guitar. You are using a footrest, right?
It could be the chair you are sitting on. If you are sitting near the edge of the chair, placing the guitar into the classical position and playing with any downward pressure on your left leg, you are pushing the back of your leg into the edge of the chair and shutting down the blood supply. This is going to sound odd, but sit your chair sideways in front of a full length mirror, get into your guitar playing position and then look at your legs, are they angling downward at all? If they are, you need to get them into a 90 degree angle so that there is less pressure on the back of your left leg. A cushion on the chair that has good padding on the edge may help also.
I can't help you more than that. My hubby has played guitar for over 40 years and though he did not usually play in the classical position, when he did he too had "pins and needles" and found that getting his legs into a better position did help matters.
Good luck.
It's bored! Ha Ha, just kidding! Whenever you sit in a position for a long time, the blood can pool in low areas and becomes trapped in restricted areas. Either will cause a numbing sensation. Adjust your position, the books are not always correct. Find a way that suits your playing style and is comfortable for you. Keep Jammin" Bro!
