Serious question.I've been stung by a wasp!?

Question:
OK I was out in the garden about an hour ago, barefoot, and I must have stood on a wasp, as my toe really hurt, I managed to get the sting out, and put some antiseptic cream on my toe, but now my toe has really swollen up, and hurts like mad!
Is this normal?
It's the toe next to my big toe!

Answers:
If it was an hour ago and only your toe has swollen I wouldn't worry about a serious allergic reaction (ie one that will require A&E) - that would happen within minutes and you wouldn't be around to ask the question now.

It is normal to have localised swelling (it is a poison after all) and may spread to part of your foot. Apply ice, take something like piriton or benadryl to combat swelling from the reaction and keep an eye on it over the next couple of days. If it gets worse, becomes hot/itchy or increasingly painful go to your GP or local Walk In Centre.

Do not ring 999 or go to A&E unless you develop tongue or lip swelling, your throat begins to feel like it is closing in or you start having trouble breathing - they will only give you the above advice and you will wait for 4-6 hrs to get it!
the swelling is normal. put an alcohol swab on it to reduce the pain a bit. It's going to hurt for awhile, so chill out in front of the TV and watch something that'll keep your attention.
Call NHS direct x
Phone your out of hours GP service in your in the UK. You could be having an allergic reaction. Do it NOW.x
for a wasp sting, remove the sting and apply vinegar. and for a bee sting, do the same but instead of vinegar use baking soda.
yes its normal have been stung many times and mine swell up, the only thing you need to watch out for is if your lips and tongue start swelling and then you call 999 take some pain killers and hope fully it will feel better tomorrow
ouch!
Some swelling is normal, but if it spreads you need to get to an ER, because you are having an allergic reaction. I suggest you take some benadryl, ice your toe and keep it propped up about your heart, and keep an eye on it.
I did this a couple of years ago. The pain and swelling were quite bad. I put a face cloth in the freezer, then pressed it onto the sting, this was the only way I got any relief. It did'nt ease for about four hours. Hope yours is soon better
Keep a good eye on it maybe try to place some ice over it.
Sounds sore.
Contact NHS direct on 0845 4647 (24 hrs) for some advice if it is really bad.

Keep you foot elevated and an ice pack(frozen peas?) may help the swelling. It is probably a minor allergic response that happens to some people. If it remains swollen for several hours then see your doctor tomorrow as it is probably infected.
The best thing for it, after the sting is out, is vinegar. It helps take the pain away
You could try taking some anti histimine they may help with the reaction. You are likely to have some swelling because of what the wasps release. Normally if you are severly allergic you will have start to notice rash/sweling/ heavy chest/ breathing difficulties quite soon after the sting. Keep an eye for developing symptoms elsewhere on your body than where you were stung. If you are concerned call NHS direct and they will be able to give you advice over the phone.
go into colchester casualty . (see you in a week , hahaha)...and don't forget to pay and display
yes it is normal, pour vinegar on it to neutralise the poision. its gonna hurt for a bit tho
how`s the wasp doing,,,,
you have had a allergic reaction to it, it can be very serious, i would advice that you contact NHS Direct or go into your walk in center at your nearest NHS hospital. Hope it gets better. x.
Put an ice pack on your toe and take a pain killer such as paracetamol. If in doubt call NHS direct. Ask someone to keep an eye on you in case of systematic allergy. If you feel breatheless or have any swelling of tongue or throat dial 999.

the avatars fab by the way

now go aqua fresh ya toe xxxxxxxxx
Ouch!! Make a 1/2 baking soda 1/2 water mixture, put it on the sting, and it will dry up and make a paste. This will take away the pain, and help reduce the swelling. It also might be helpful to take some benedryl. If you start having problems swallowing, your lips start to swell, or have difficulty breathing you would want to seek medical attention quickly.
