Whats wrong with my knee?
Question:
ok heres the problem, whenever i sit down or keep my right knee in a bent way for a period of time, when I go to stand up and straighten it it like locks up, has a stinging pain on the back of my knee and is hard to straighten, but after like 10 seconds it all goes away.
i did not injure this knee other than a small knee sprain like 4 months ago but that seems to have healed.
Answers:
That sounds like a problem that I had/still have. Basically if I would sit with my knee bent for too long it would lock in that position and hurt like hell. It took quite a few years for a doctor to diagnose it, but finally an orthopedic surgeon took my complaints seriously. Turned out I had what is called a PLICA - it's an overgrowth of tissue in the knee, and everytime you bend your knee the extra tissue gets pinched and becomes inflammed, causing the pain and the sticking. After a few months of physical therapy that never helped I underwent arthoscopic knee surgery to remove the excess tissue, and the surgeon also found that it had been rubbing on my meniscus and caused it to fray. 2 years after surgery I am a little bit better, but not completely and still have other possible surgical procedures that may need to be done.
I'm not saying that this is for sure what you have as I don't have an medical history, x-rays, or mri's to go by, but I do think it would be in your best interest to talk to your family physician, they may refer you to an orthopedic surgeon who will do some x-rays, therapy, maybe an MRI, and worse case-scenario surgery (if therapy doesn't help).
If you need more information email me I don't mind answering questions about it at all.
Hope this helps. Good Luck. :-)
