Ingrown toenail surgery?

Question:
I have the surgery in a few days. they are taking out the sides of the toenail, the permanent procedure, its called. I'm scared soooo much! I'm scared of the shots, and everything. i've had the ingrown for over a year, am constantly dropping things on it. But somehow i'm still scared. please help me try to not be soo damn scared. is it going to hurt really bad? what?

Answers:
The more people who tell you it's not nearly as bad as it sounds, the better...so I'll tell you too.

It's not awful and please don't be scared. The shots are just like any shot. They pinch a little at first but then the numbness takes over.

I broke my toe years ago and it ruined my nail, so every few years I go to have it taken off (I can't bring myself to have it taken off for good). This last time, I couldn't believe how little it hurt afterward. I was all prepared with my pain pill prescription and had cleared my weekend, but it barely hurt at all, and I do not handle pain well.

Do exactly as they instruct you with changing the bandages. Use a lot of the cream stuff before you put the gauze on--that way the gauze won't stick to your toe (that does hurt!).

Really, it's not a big deal, and you will be so happy you had it done.
it isn't so bad and then you never have to deal with that again
It does not hurt at all. The needle will give you a little pinch and your toes will be so numb you will not even realize the nail is being taken out. You may be a little sore for a few hours, but nothing advil can not take care of. Honestly, I have it done twice to both toes, and it was nothing.
There is nothing to be fearful of. I have had many ingrown toenail surgeries.
The doctor will numb the toe with a shot. I will be honest about this, the medicine will sting for a few seconds and it will then stop.
After he is through with the injection, he will give it a few minutes for the medicine to take affect, and let your toe get fully numb.
After it gets fully numb, the only thing you will feel is pressure, not pain but pressure from having him cut off both sides of the nail.
He will then pour some liquid on the toe to keep it from growing back.
He may or may not suture it, irreregadless he will put some type of dressing on it.
You will be done and ready to go home.
Dont be fearful in the least, I have had this procedure done many time.
