Is it better to tense neck in a crash?
Question:
If I'm sat in my car at a junction, look in my rear view mirror and see the car behind me heading towards the back of my car at great speed and obviously about to make contact, would it be advantageous to force my head/neck back against the headrest/seat with my hands ready for the impact?
Would this avoid whiplash injuries?
Answers:
i dont think it could avoid whiplash because you are still going to be forced forward.
yes it would be good for your hands because i heard from somewhere that alot of people injure them in car acidents especially if u have your thumb in the inside of the steering wheel.
i dont know about tensing the neck. its one of the questions i ask myself before i go on a rollercoaster and i have never worked out what is best
I don't know but if you are unfortunate enough to be in a lift when the cable breaks, just before the lift hits in the ground jump about a foot into the air and you will survive the impact.
yes if you can minimize the distance between your head and the head rest (which really is a head restraint device) is would decrease or even eliminate the whiplash effect...why people get whiplash is b/c when they are rear-ended the vehicle is pushed forward, in turn the seat is pushed forward and the body goes along with the seat but the head is left behind and the head is bent backward, thereby stretching the structures in the front of the neck
not really,if you tense yourself the injuries could be worse as the force of impact throws you forward.bracing your hands on the wheel could make you end up with broken wrists and not just whiplash injuries.
Have you ever heard that someone who is drunk tends to have less injuries when they come out of a serious accident then someone who is sober. Well i was told by a doctor when my brother had his car accident that its because they go limp instead of stiffening up. If the accident is serious enough you will still be injured but less then the sober person
try and go as limp as possible if u see the car coming put your head down between your legs like they do on an aircraft
the mere fact that is that way any sudden impact is diversed through out the body as opposed to one central point and then of course sue the mother f********* for all they got for rear ending you like that
but most definately do not force yourself to brace tight against the wheel
this sort of action only works when you are say in a submarine or ship and you then are only bracing yourself from being flung across the ships decks or subs and incurring other injuries
possible fatal
YES IT MIGHT WELL DO BUT NO GUARANTEE BUT IF YOU KNOW AN IMPACT IS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE ITS BETTER TO RELAX YOUR WHOLE BODY
