Racing heart. . .?

Question:
I was lying down on the couch, trying to fall asleep. It wasn't worken, so I sat up for a minute. Then I noticed my heart was pounding so fast it felt like it was gonna explode out of my chest. What causes this? It went away after I took a few deep breaths.
Additional details: I drank three soda's, Took four Advil p.m. for a headache, and hadn't slept much. Thanks a lot.

Answers:
Tachycardia can have many, many causes, some resulting from heart disease, others not. Sometimes the cause is never found, and it never happens again. One cause is caffeine, in case the sodas you drank were caffeinated.

Check with your doctor to make sure you don't have any underlying heart condition. From there, they'll test your thyroid and other possible causes in the endocrine system. I've had a few episodes, and they never could figure out why ... but at least now I know my heart is in good shape!
The soda and too much advil may have caused this. If it happens again without those things, see your doctor.
Did this make you dizzy or light headed? Does this happen often? You might want to see a dr. This is not normal. You need to have a few test. You might have early onset of a fib or something like that.
