Tense FRONT of neck?

I have a lot of "tension" in my neck directly at the location of the carotid arteries, in the front of my neck. I am 34. My grandfather died at 46 of arterial schlerosis. My father had to have an operation on his carotid at 66. I'm trying to figure if this is physcho-sematic or tension or whatever. Any thought?

Usually tension occurs toward the back of the neck rather than in front...unless you remember injuring your neck lately.
