Answers:
Scott,
If it were something serious like a heartattack, she would have different symptoms. Carpal Tunnel does NOT have sudden onset. It is more than likely that she pinched a nerve by sleeping in a poor position last night. She can try taking an anelgesic like Aleve or Ibuprophen and stretching her neck, arms, hands and upper body very slowly. Reaching for the ceiling with palms together and looking up helps align the upper body. I would also suggest that she tries sleeping flat on her back with little or no pillow tonight. If her pain increases over the next couple of hours she should go to the clinic. If it stays the same. it will get better soon ;but if it is exactly the same in a few days she should also go see the doctor.
You are sweet to try to take care of her.
Hope you both feel better soon!! :)
Might be carpal tunnel syndrome. Ask her if its more of a numb pain and tingling sensation. Does it go into her thumb and index finger? If so, she has something going on with the medial nerve, most likely carpal tunnel, possibly tennis elbow. Have her change sleeping possitions. If spends a lot of time writting or typing, or there repetitive action, its definately carpal tunnel. Go see a doc and ask for a Physical Therapy referal.
Does your mom work on computers a lot, if so it could be carpal tunnel syndrome. If not it could be arthritis. And sometime you can sleep the wrong way and cause this pain. If it persist until tomorrow contact a doctor
maybe she slept on it funny. call a doctor if there is any swelling or discoloration or if pain does not go away in a few hours.
Is probably carpal tunnel syndrome. I had surgery on both wrists before. Look under yahoo carpal tunnel syndrome.
It sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. My dad has it and it is very agitating at times. You can get it from anything that keeps your wrist & hand in a certain position for long periods of time (or that's what the told my dad caused his)..

Or it could be a pulled muscle or messed up nerve..Tell her to go to the doctor so they can diagnose and treat her pain.
