For health care professionals - Your thoughts on HR 676?
Question:
The idea of having national health care for everyone is certainly one that is long overdue to be implemented in America. Just the fact that so many people are uninsured, under insured, or get screwed over by their insurance companies is awful.

Answers:
as for the Canadians, the downside is that the doctors don't live like kings. that's why they come over here, so they can make waaaaaaaaay more money. they don't have to concentrate on actually making patients well.
as for the unemployed and homeless. if they got the proper medical care, they could work. people aren't throwaways. god help us when we think we're better than someone else. people lose jobs, some end up homeless, i don't think that's a chosen lifestyle. there are always a few exceptions, but it's not the rule.
as for the waiting period... i had great insurance, and i still had to wait over a month to see a GI when i had been passing blood and mucus (for a year and a half). did i mention that i had seen scores of other doctors in the "best" medical facilities and no one could diagnosis (even after doing a colonoscopy) that i pan-ulcerative colitis? in my research, i knew it was one of 3 things, yet the "doctors" just couldn't figure it out. so the waiting period really is not a factor. they are so busy pushing drugs and running endless tests, that you're half dead. i was . before they can get it together. maybe doctors should be held accoutable for how many people they are able to keep/get healthy. maybe there should be a public website so we can rate the level of care. maybe they should be paid according to their level of compentency. there really isn't any recourse for a family against a doctor/hospital until someone dies. then they usually just pay off the family and that's it.
don't even get me started on lawyers.
yes, i think that i would support this. i think it should be optional maybe ? kind of like at work you choose your packages /plan according to what you think makes sense for yourself/family. it works for many countries around the world and i do believe that our government/drug and insurance companies do not want us to be informed/educated. they keep us so in debt that many do not have an opportunity for a annual vacation and never can afford to set foot outside the U.S. to see what life is like. europeans enjoy a month in the summer for holidays. now, to be fair, they pay much more taxes, something like 40 to 50 percent ? most americans pay 28 %. But i believe we could get used to living on less money for improved qualities/benefits.
Im have not read every detail on the Bill, but there are some good points and some bad.
I do dislike the fact that those who can not pay tax or are jobless/homeless can still qualify for it. If the taxes are being raised on us and employers in order to fund the program, they are getting in for free if im not mistaken.
What I do like though is that it is one single healthplan nationwide, rather than 5000 different companies to choose from to take our money.
However, if this is anything like the canadian free healthcare I don't think its too great. I've seen so many news stories of people passing away because the healthcare is free. By that I mean, since it is free they sometimes have to wait for periods of up to 2 years just to get a major surgery done. These might just be urban myths or horror stories, but they dont seem too far fetched.
But like I said, I have not read completely into the bill yet, just seen a few key points. The plan does look nice, but I would have to have it explained to me in greater detail.
