Smokers - why do you keep smoking when you're sick?

I do - and it's called addiction. I can't explain it - I just NEED a cigarette.
For example about 7 years ago I had back surgery and couldn't walk - I actually crawled out of bed to get outside to smoke.
Non - smokers will say it is a lack of will power, but they say that cigs are harder to quit then heroin. I can attest to this - In my younger years I used both heroin and meth - and quit them. Cigarettes I have quit, then start, then quit, then start.
It's a vicious cycle...

The first answerer was correct in saying it's addictive. I am a smoker and wish I had the willpower to quit. I do tend to smoke less when I am sick, but I do still smoke. It's messed up my teeth (4,000.00 in dental work) , I sometimes have a hard time breathing, it has dried out my hair and not to mention I always smell like an ashtray...and then there is the cost of cigarettes.
My advice to everybody is this... if you smoke, I pray you have stronger willlpower than mine and QUIT.
If you don't smoke, do yourself a favor and don't start!
It is a hard habit to break, just as drinking is!!
Because if we don't smoke, we get cranky. And being sick just makes it worse! If we don't have a cigarette while we are sick, you better watch out, we'll attack you! Just kidding.
But yeah, it's because we are addicted! It's so hard to explain an addiction to someone who hasn't experienced the one they want to know about...

Because smoking is the worst addiction ever. Some say it is worse than being addicted to drugs but that just depends on the person. Addiction takes over your body and all you know and feel is the addiction.
I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY DON'T GET HELP, THEY NEED TO GET ALL THE HELP THEY CAN GET TO QUIT, DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES, ..I HAVE JUST WITNESSED ON AUG. 2 2007 A WOMAN DIE FROM DISEASES CAUSED BY HER SMOKING,(I'M A MEDICAL ASSISTANT AT A FAMILY CLINIC) TEARS ROLLED DOWN MY EYES, AS I WATCHED THE PARAMEDICS GIVE HER CPR FOR 45 MINUTES STRAIGHT, THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I SAW SOMEONE DIE IN FRONT OF MY EYES, AND THE ONE THING I CAN SAY NOW IS..SMOKING WILL KILL YOU, AND THATS THE SAD PART EVERYONE IS NOT GRASPING.
