I have to get a number of shots today, but I am deathly afraid of needles. What can I do to ease the pain?

Question:
My mom has one of those "Shot-blockers", but how does it work?? Is there any over the counter meds I can take or ice it or etc. ??

Answers:
Take some ibuprofen before you go. Also when your getting the shot don't look at it because that's what makes it hurt worse: your fear. But most importantly of all, do NOT flex or tense up. When you flex your doctor has to push the needle harder to get through the hard muscle. When the muscle is soft and relaxed, the process is very painless.
Hi there,

In the last 2 years I have so many needle encounters that I have learned that if I sit still, don't look and take deep breathes it is never as bad if I am squirming around and complaining that it will hurt. Most regular vaccines don't hurt, it's just a tiny litte sting which stings for a couple of seconds.

You could use an ice-block for a few minutes before hand but that only helps with the prick, when the medicine is injected it still stings.
