That's happened to me before. Unfortunately, you won't really see any "healing", but over time you will see it going up as the nail grows. It's not really a bruise, it's actually blood stuck underneath your toenail. It takes about two years, but eventually the nail will grow out enough that you can cut off the bloody part and be done with it.
I can't remember what I dropped on mine, but I remember the pain... oh the pain. And then the ugly bruise... It goes away, that's the good news... bad news... almost a year.
It will go away, but it will take a very long time.
Just keep it painted, and you won't notice it as much.
The only other thing you could have done, is a the time of the bruise, use a hot pin to poke a hole into the nail (I know it sounds gross) but it would have relieved the pressure and
allowed the blood to escape, but now It's dried and will not
come out.
