Hi, i have this extreme involuntary gagging reflex when my dentist tried to take a dental x ray...?
Question:
Pls help, thanks!
Answers:
I actually had this happen to me. I'd never had a bad gag reflex and the one day - blam! Lasted for about a year (it went away on it's own about a year or so later). It wasn't so bad brushing my teeth as I could control all that, but at the dentist it was horrible. I talked to him about it and he gave me a prescription for Valium (or something like it) to take right before my appointment to relax me, which is the key to the gag reflex. It worked.
And don't worry - what you're experiencing is actually quite normal. Lots of people have gagging problems with something is stuck in their mouth.
Severe, but not THAT bad.
Try to relax, and breathe slow, deep, and easy. Its sort of an unnecessary panic thing.
what you have to do is challenge yourself by sticking things in the back of your throat and saying i am not gonna gag this time until it stops. good luck
