What is it like?

Question:
On friday I am having knee surgery. What is it like to wake up after surgery? What should I know before I go in?
PS i tore my acl,mcl and municus

Answers:
Just stay calm and you'll be fine. I had knee surgery 2 years ago, I stayed awake for mine, but what I can tell you is:

1.) When you wake up you'll be very groggy and probably fall back asleep in your post-op bed (that's common knowledge)
2.) You'll be sore - pain medications will be your best friend
3.) Eat something before you take anything or you'll get sick
4.) Don't try to rush your recovery - it's going to take some time, and will be very frustrating but hang in there
5.) Don't be stubborn and refuse help - if you need/want something ask somebody for help, stubborness will only lengthen your recovery time
6.) Follow your doctor's orders, your physical therapists orders, rest, use lots of ice, and take your pain meds and you'll be just fine.

Hope this helps. Email me if you need more information. Good Luck. :-)
people usually wake up scared, some times hysterical, crying, throwing up etc
Physical therapy will be EXTREMELY important and you must take it seriously and put 100% effort into it to get back to doing the things you like to do. It will take you about 6 months of PT to get back to about 80-90% and around 2 yrs to get back to 100%. You will only reach about 100% if you continue to work on the strength of the leg even after you finish PT. Good luck with things.
