What causes a calf mussel to spasm in the middle of the night?

Question:

Answers:
Muscle spasms are caused by electrolyte imbalances in the body, usually potassium, sodium, and magnesium cause the most problems. If they get really low or really high (there's actually a very small margin for the normal range) you can die because that spasm in your leg turns into a spasm in your heart. My suggestion to you is to eat some salty food and some potatoes, bananas, orange juice and take a multivitamin with minerals every day.
It could be that your potassium is low, try eating bananas or other foods high in potassium and see if that helps!
Usually muscle cramps are caused by a shortage of electrolytes. Potassium, calcium, and sodium, are necessary for proper muscle function. The best remedy if you are plagued by muscle cramps is Pedialyte. More electrolytes than Gatorade and the generic is fine, especially in the fruit flavors.
