Migraine sufferers?

Question:
I have battled with a headache all night and just KNOW i will wake up a couple of hours after i go to bed with a migraine. I have taken some migraleve and drank a gallon of water. I dont get them often (but often enough) so wondered if any regular sufferers could offer me some advice? I usually end up vomiting and feeling rotten, any thing work for you? Have had to abstain from drinking too much on my girls night and am a bit cheesed off (to say it politely)

Answers:
Are you sure it's migraine. I thought I suffered from migraines for years. It eventually emerged that I had pollen allergy that was effecting my sinus and causing crippling headaches. Don't trust the NHS to diagnose a missing head. Tender eyebrows, headache around the eyes and forehead were my symptoms. Sudafed helps quite a lot. acupuncture is worth a try too.
Head On ,apply directly to the Forehead,Head On
Most migraine sufferers get migraine medication from their doc to keep on hand if they do get one. If you get one go to ER and they can give you a shot for it to get rid of it.
I don't suffer, but my father does.

When he feels it coming on, he pops a few extra strength Advil..hides himself in a quiet dark room in his house..and tries to sleep before it strikes. Many times he can avoid it.

No noise, no light. My father covers his head with his blanket and all.

Good luck honey, dunno what else to tell you. Hope it passes.
I have suffered from migraines since I was 6. So therefore you'd think by now, I'd be a pro at how to handle them and what works best in my situation. I've gotten it controlled to where now that I don't get violently ill anymore or have to be shut up in a dark room for hours, possibly days at a time. I take my medicine, high dose midrin, drink a lot of water, and simply turn out all the lights, crawl into a ball, and just try to find my "happy" place. It helps.
You need to get a RX for Imitrex! The only thing that knocks a migraine down in 30 mins or less! It comes in pill form and self injection. Good luck!
I used to suffer really bad, but I think I have grown out of them now.
But I remember certain foods set it off. Oranges being one!
maybe its something your eating.

Oh and driving. without realising, I squint all the time when Im driving. I thinks its because of the sun.

Try wearing sunglasses more often. we have had a few hot days and you could have been putting pressure on your head without realising by squinting!
I use to get them all the time. If I drank or didnt drink, didnt matter. I vomit when I get them as well.

This went on for years changed doctors everything. When to a new doctor and he said how is your blood pressure? I said fine. he checked it and said yes it is fine. But you only go to the doctor when you dont have one. Check it when you do.

Yep that was it. My blood pressue would go up for some reason. I know Im about to get a migraine I take a blood pressure pill and its gone. Problem solved. I dont get them anymore. I start to get them, blood pressure pill and they are gone.

That was my problem, you might want to ask a doctor in the UK.
You should see your doctor. There are prescriptions available that will get rid of your migraine within 2 hours. Over the counter migraine medicines DO NOT WORK! You could also start a headache diary and try to determine when and why you get a migraine. There are certain foods you should avoid and by keeping a diary you might be able to pinpoint migraine triggers. I found that apple juice, yogurt and wine cause me to get migraines.

Don't suffer - see your doctor
Alcohol, caffeine, sugar, nitrates, MSG, food coloring, preservatives, and a million other things cause migraines. You already know that alcohol is a trigger for you. Imitrex, prescribed by a doctor is the best treatment I know of. Rather expensive, however.
I had to go to the doctor and get a perscription for relpax which works very well if you take it at the first sign of the migraine. when i wake up with one i still take the medicine but all i can do is sleep it off. I don't get them as bad since I started going to a chiropractor.
try the newer ergot derivatives like sumatriptan for your migraine. their is also the matter of timing your medication intake. do you have the classical migraine with the typical aura prior to a migraine attack? i suggest you take the ergot derivatives during the aura stage. during the migraine itself you can combine it with NSAID like diclofenac.

also, have you dah a formal neurological examination, especially CT scan or MRI/MRA? other organic/structural diseases should be ruled out before saying that you have a migraine

try to keep a "migraine diary". list down all the food, events or other substances you are taking or exposed to during the day so that when you do have a migraine you can pin down which substances or events trigger an attack.
Excedrin
Sometimes migraine headaches are often related with food allergies or intolerances.
Identify and eliminate them if is the case .
You must go to the doctor and ask him for Zomig tablets. He will probably only give you 6 tabs.per perscription but they are very effective.
I think it was my answer to your "cutting your hair" question that gave you the headache, and I sincerely apologize. But,"cor
blimey!" look at all this concerned response! There's half the cure right there. I've never seen so many sympathy cards back to back! My sister has migraines, and I've seen her cry her eyes out
so I know it's nothing to joke about. Try to sleep better knowing you've got this posse of well-wishers...Nite, Birdy!
My mom suffers from migraines. She is on prescription medications to prevent them, and yet, she still gets them really bad. Here are a couple of things that work for her:
1.) Excedrin Migraine - available over the counter, take two, along with a calcium supplement for the best results (take them together)
2.) Magnesium - add a magnesium supplement to your diet
3.) Ice pack - get an ice pack or cold pack for your forehead or a mask one for your eyes which will help with the pressure
4.) Laying down - lay down in a comfortable position flat on your back in a dark quiet room until the pain lessens or subsides all together
5.) Gel patches - these are giant disposable cooling patches that you stick to the skin. My mom has found that these work wonders for her
6.) Limit contributing factors - poor diet, a diet high in processed foods, citric acid, caramel color, caffeine, chocolate, sulfites, and food dyes are all poor diet choices that can contribute to migraine headaches. Stress can also cause migraines.
always keep 2 hedex tablets with me at all times,on 1st start of migraine take 2 tablets usually after 40minutes i can see again ,i wear dark glasses often,as my migraine starts from bright lights eg- disco lights, flash cameras, the sun.to much cheese or chocolate.even quavers crisps sets of a migraine must be the E12 additive.am UK resident
I used to suffer from mirgraines a lot and i found they mainly related to my periods. I used to suffer with heavy bleeding and that was when i used to get bad migraines. Stress and cetain foods used to trigger them off too. Food like citrus fruit and chocolate would give me migraines. I found Migraleve tablets very good, they come in pink and yellow tablets. You take two pink tablets at the slightest hint of a migraine, then if it still persists you can take two yellow tablets every 4 (i think) hours but can only take 2 pink tablets in one day. I found mainly that 2 pink tablets did the trick if i went to bed in a dark room and went to sleep. I couldnt stand light and heat when i had a migraine.

Also i know vomiting is horrid but i used to feel a lot better afterwards.

I seem to have grown out of them now thank god but i am still careful about eating chocolate. If i eat chocolate late at night before bed i will get a very bad headache the next day.

I hope this was of some help to you.
