How long does Nuerontin (for irritated nerves) take to work?
Question:
Answers:
It takes that long because it is not a pain medicine. It is a med that helps block the nerve pain. It does not work for some people and if it isn't working after 2 weeks then call your doc and let him know so he can try something else. If you are having pain now then use a prescription dosage of either naproxen or ibuprofen.
Yes, it's true, and it may not even ever kick in and relieve your pain. There are other medications that could also be helpful though.
I WAS ON IT FOR YEARS AS A MOOD STABLIZER BUT THEN HAD IT FOR BACK NEUROPATHY. - NON FEELING IN ARMS HANDS AND BACK AFTER GBS. SOOOO IT DIDN'T WORK AFTER THAT. TRY SOME AMYTRIPTALINE-ELEVIL AND TRAMADOL FOR PAIN AND YOU WILL FEEL BETTER. SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK. I USE THOSE NOW FOR BACK PAIN AND VERY SEVERE FIBROMYALGIA.
it may not work at all..my son has a spinal cord injury and they gave him that and it didnt work..explain to your dr. you need something for pain..at least til he thinks the nuerotin should start working..if not have your dr. refer you to pain management dr...good luck
i had shingles and i havenerve damage from other things, neurotonhelped me right away. if its not working now u should call your doc. and tell him or her.
My doctor told me 2-4 weeks until you start to notice any effects from the medication because it has to get into your system, and begin to work. For some people Neurontin does not work so you may have to change medications, Lyrica is typically now considered a better medication, which it also does take 2-4 weeks to begin to work. Neither of those medications worked for me (no nerve medication helped me) to help my pain (it's from complex regional pain syndrome/reflex sympathetic dystrophy so it's completely different). Good luck!
Ibuprofen over the counter you can take up to 1600 mgs a day for the pain. A dr will write out one for say a 800mg tablet. Now over the counter my be in less mgs but it is okay to take more at once. I took 800mgs at once for a toothache and it worked wonders. It should knock out some if not all your back pain, UNTIL the meds wear off. Be sure to eat before you take it.
Also you don't want to take it all the time say like 2 or 3 months everyday it can mess up you stomach.
As for Nuerontin I was on it for depression problems and it took I guess like 2 to 3 weeks to kick in. It has to get into your blood system, Also be careful on it. It has been known to make people want to kill them self or others. I see the commercial on TV talking about this all the time. When I was on it it made me go nuts and I tried to kill myself. Come to find it was the meds doing it to me. '
