Does ultram(tramadol 50mg)even help at all for pain?

Question:
I am used to taking hydrocodone and want to get off of it, But I have a bad back and suffer from chronic pain. Doc suggested ultram. Will this help? Some say it's too weak!

Answers:
My husband takes tramadol in addition to hydrocodone for his back. It seems to help him by augmenting the hydrocodone. Are you taking an anti-inflammatory too? If not, consult your doctor before starting it-it might help.
I have chronic pain & I use it..it works, but I have to take 2 usually. It binds to opioid receptors so sometimes it gives the same side effects as Vicodin.
I know they prescribe Oxycocet/Oxycodine for serious pain. If you are looking for a non-narcotic, try Naproxen/Novo.
It will help, but have you tried other things such as a TENS unit, massage, acupuncture, physical therapy or yoga. I am not against medication, but maybe try one or all of these things in conjunction with the meds.
