Does putting an ice pack on broken ribs help ease the pain or can it delay healing?
Question:
Answers:
There is a time and place for ice. DO NOT use heat if you are within a week of when you broke your ribs. After that first week, a combination of the two is the best. After that first week, if you switch back and forth starting with heat and ending with cold. 4 minutes heat, 3 minutes cold, 4, 3, 4, 3, 4, 5. It will create a pumping action which will keep your body from excessively reacting the the injury and delaying the healing process, and will allow the needed nutrients and repair cells to begin to heal the area. Remember that it will be a long process because every time you breathe you are causing damage that needs to be repaired, so just take it easy and don't do any strenuous work for a while.
it will ease the pain by constricting blood vessels. delay in healing comes if you leave the ice on too long and dont take breaks.
putting it directly on wound will delay as well as not ease the pain..it will b mor painful!! put it slightly above the wound so as to not kill skin cells..
It'll help ease the pain and wont' affect the healing at all unless you do it constantly. Low heat will help too and has less effect on healing.
Use heat to lessen pain or swelling. Heat brings blood to the injured area and helps it to heal faster.
