Stitches vs staples in abdominal surgery (opinion if you've had BOTH)?
Question:
Which would you choose again, if you could... staples or stitches, and why.
I am going in for a second c-section and would like other peoples opinions on the choice.
Thank you for your time.
Answers:
I had two Caesareans. Stitches the first time and staples the second time. I also had a hysterectomy 17 years later and had staples with that.
I would go with staples. The stitches have to be pulled out and they don't come out as smoothly as the staples so they hurt a lot. Also it's faster to put staples in and to remove them and I had no pain whatsoever when they were removed.
i had stiches and staples with my daughter..the staples has a lot pressure until they are removed about a wk later.i had a csection but they stiched me and then stapled me too so i didn't have an option
Sutures all the way!
They are more comfortable to lie on, they don't get caught on clothes and I think FAR more comfortable to remove.
staples. Stitches can be a pain getting out. I never have stitches anymore. They seem to make my incisions look worse. My last surgery they put them under the skin and I still haven't healed. That was in february.
I have had both and am also a surgical nurse. With todays technique they use a stitch called a subcuticular stitch which means that you do not have the stitches taken out. This stitch is an absorable suture. The stitch is right under the skin and will leave a scar as pretty as the staple scar.
Congratulations on your future birth!
