Nose Cauterization?

Question:
basically i have to get my nose cauterized. because i have too many nose bleeds. most likely from playing too much soccer (oh well).

so my question is.

has anyone had his surgery?
if so, can you clarify what happens?

i looked online and there were twenty different explainations. some say that its done under anesthesia, some say its a local numbing agents, some saying that you have to take it like a man.

i'm up for anything, really. because it needs to be done. but i would just like to know.

thanks

Answers:
Yes, both my son and I have had to have that done. It wasn't too bad. They spray a local anesthetic up your nose and then they cauterize it with an instrument that looks like a soldering iron, then they packed our noses. That may have changed some, because it has been over 30 years ago. We neither one have had a problem with that since that time.
My brother had this done when he was quite young (6 or 7) for the same reason. From what he tells me, the instrument used was basically like a soldering iron. He said it was uncomfortable, but not painful (but he didn't mention anesthesia).

It worked, by the way. He hasn't had a nose bleed since.
Yep. Sounds familiar. A friend of mine had the procedure performed on her 16 year old daughter a couple years ago. I know they numbed her up real good, but I think they also may have given her a sedative. Her daughter has some anxiety issues around doctors. Her nose was sore for a couple days. They gave her some ibuprofen pills in case she needed them, and also gave her antibiotics.
