What type of knee injury does this sound like?

Question:
On Saturday I fell real hard on my right knee. It swelled up a little and left a small bruise. However I could still walk normally. Now the bruise is almost 3" in diameter and I have some pain after walking for a while and I still can't kneel without immense pain. Is this just a bruise or should I see a doctor. The fall was from about 4'.
Thanks

Answers:
It sounds like it's just a bruise - kneeling on a bruise will hurt just like poking one would. However, with the fall being from 4 feet it could be more than a bruise. As of right now I wouldn't worry too much about it, do a few things:

1.) Ice, Ice, and more Ice
2.) Rest your knee
3.) Elevate your knee on pillows, chairs, or stools
3.) Wrap it in an ace bandage if you have one handy
4.) Take motrin or tylenol for pain

After a day or so if you're still have problems, experience more severe pain, or more swelling get yourself to a doctor.

Hope this helps. :-)
Chances are you just have a hemarthrosis (blood in the joint capsule), in which case a little ice and compression might have saved you some difficulties, but more significant injuries are possible, and if the effusion continues to expand and is really painful, your doctor could poke a nice fat needle in it to relieve some of the pressure. Could be worth checking out.
You should see a doctor if not better in about a week. Being that you fell its less likely that you tore something, but if you think it is a fracutre, then you need to have it xrayd.
