Confused about not getting a second fiberglass cast?

Question:
I am confused not getting a second cast when the first cast was on less than a week. I suppose to wear one on my foot so I would not be using the joints and the muscles in my foot. The doctor I go to see was not in the office. so I had to go to see the doctor that was taking his place. He agreed the first cast was loose. So they took off the cast but refused to put another one on I told him I suppose to wear a cast for 4 weeks.why did he do this? But I do have a appt. to see my original foot doctor.

Answers:
It might not be that he refused; he may not have been properly trained to put a new cast on you (unlikely, but possible), or there may have been legal or insurance conflicts since he isn't your usual doctor. However, I think he was right to take off the loose cast; a loose cast won't do much for you and could cause skin problems. Until you can see your original doctor, you may want to make a makeshift splint to keep your foot still so you don't accidentally hurt it.
Just try not to move your foot in the meantime. Odds are good this fill-in doc doesn't know much about your case, or what kind of treatment plan your regular doc has for you. You may go to a pharmacy or wal-mart or somewhere and see if you can pick up a splint in the meantime!
In my experience a loose cast can be more dangerous than no cast at all. I went for a week and a half with no cast on a broken arm and everything went fine, but when I got a cast on it was to loose and just a matter of days later the loose cast caused the break to be displaced. Before getting the cast I had a splint rap that I didn't wear because it itched to much, but in that whole time my arm was fine. When I got the cast the swelling went down and loosened up the cast. One day while I was sitting there playing xbox(hard to do with a cast) I moved my arm and felt a horrible pain and the bone move. Maybe not being in a cast is in your best interest.
Sometimes doctors put on cast for crazy reasons and this doctor may not have thought that you needed the cast in the first place. It just depends on your injury, if you have something like a fractured foot - these don't always need a cast and you can just wear a hard sole shoe. If you had the cast for an ankle sprain, then you really shouldn't have a cast. All doctors are different and that 2nd doctor that you saw probably did not think you needed it which is not a big deal. You should be lucky to not have a cast.
