I was a die-hard smoker for 20+ years. I quit smoking almost a year ago (last October) and here is what I did. When I decided to quit- I just plain old quit. No having a puff or one on a bad day. I started out using the patch and it was too heavy for me. So after that I did it on my own. I tell ya- I bitched and moaned. I talked about it and complained. I whined and whined. but I just didn't smoke. I allowed myself to openly complain. In fact i talked about it for days and days... I just DIDN'T smoke. Since i allowed myself to complain, I let that be the outlet for my desire. It is also a proven fact that someone who has tried to quit in the past has a higher chance of quitting every time they try to quit. So, if this is your first time trying to quit, chances are you will start up again. If this is your 50th time trying to quit, you may be successful this time.
Just be easy on yourself. It's hard to quit. Just be strong and make it happen for yourself. Quitting smoking is one of the best things i ever did for myself. Honestly, I NEVER think about it anymore. No more- GOD I NEED A CIGARETTE! The thought never ever crosses my mind anymore. It is hard but SOOOOOOOOO worth it. You'll feel so proud of yourself. Just know that once you actually quit smoking and put it behind you - you can then accomplish anything you set your mind to.
My husband quit quite easily using the losenges. Also, drinking lots of water and exercise, exercise, exercise! Good luck!
I just had a friend try acupuncture recently and she said it's helping her, she's cut way back and it's only been a couple of weeks. Have you tried the patch? Or the gum?
You are a smart and wise young lady...I quit smoking years ago but wish I had never started. 4 yrs ago, I found out I have COPD and intense asthma, 20 some years AFTER I quit and they are almost positive its from smoking THEN.

My wishes are for you to take whatever steps necessary to protect you and your family from poor health and from breathing the sickening fumes of cigarette smoke. Please...do not let your children breath it...their tiny bodies may not be able to handle it.

If need be, start working on a lung cancer ward part time volunteer so you see what can and very possibly will happen if you continue. Its a vile vile habit and I want only good things for you. Please be strong and beat the habit...now
Greetings. And congrats on deciding to quit. I personally quit (over 7 months now) using a new med called Chantix and I swear by it.

I also started a yahoo group for those trying to quit with extensie files, links, news etc. that can answer ANY question you might have about smoking and quitting Acurately. Feel free to have a look.

Hang in there. You have lots of options..R

I finally quit after trying a million things. I tried the gum, patch, all that stuff. But the bottom line is that while that stuff may help, it is like a constant reminder of smoking. I need a smoke = patch or gum. If you can get out of your head, you'll make it. I stopped cold turkey after setting up a huge project. Stay busy and don't think about it. If you start to get the shakes, stop what you're doing and sit in a quiet room for ten minutes or take a walk.

The best thing: never, ever go into a gas station. Pretend like it is a sin or something. Always pay at the pump and only use vending machines. It's such a temptation to see all those packs there. Just don't go in.
I smoked for 50 years and quit last year by using nicotine gum. I found that the Sam's wholesale club has a very good store brand that cost much less than the name brand. I tried many times before but was finally able to quit. It was tough the first week or two and I still get the urge to smoke at times, when I do I will chew the gum. I tried many brands of gum but found most of them tasted terrible and many were hard to chew. The nicotine patches are useless. Good luck, you are making a good choice by quitting..
A Yahoo search for "how to quit smoking" will give you a wealth of useful information and advice.
a threat will... seriously. all jokes aside..
when my dad couldn't stop smoking he went to the hospital & the doctor warned him if he doesn't want another man to take his place to take care of his kids, he quit immediately, 8 years non-smoker & counting!
