Someone Please Help.. Migraines!!?

Question:
I am a 17 year old female, and I've been suffering with migraines for about two years now. They use to last until I went to bed, not bad, I'd wake up feeling fine. I only got nauseated a few times, and vommited only twice last year.. This year has been ok, but lately they have gotten terrible. The past two months they have been coming on every week. (The year before they were every 2-3 weeks). It has been awful, everytime I struggle to get through. They last about 24 hours, when I wake up they still pound (my temple to the back of my head). I get so naseauted that I have to lay in bed and tilt my head a certain way. I went to the doctor but the medicine didn't help. But the nausea for it worked great. I'm so tired and worn out. I get so cautious that one's coming that I feel like one is there when it's really not. I started one yesterday at about 4:30 p.m. and it's now the next day at 5:45 p..m. so it's been about 25 hours.. this one is awful. Please Help and God Bless!

My heart goes out to you. Mine didn't start till I was in my mid 20's but before that I had TMJ headaches which are just as bad.

My migraines also can last a week or so. They come and go with my cycle (your monthly period & ovulation). So your story sounds a lot like mine.

My eyes have been blurry so I know I have one coming on soon and dreading it!

Here is what I do:

1. When you get in bed put a heating pad behind your neck. I lay on it. I have the kind that cuts off after a certain time so you don't burn yourself.

2. After awhile of heat I put an ice pack behind my neck.

3. Lay in a dark room

4. Put a cool wash cloth on your forehead

5. If things get really bad I read this online and it helps. Fill the bathtub with VERY VERY VERY hot water. Sit on the size of the tub and put your feet in for as long as you can. This forces the blood to your feed and helps ease the headache. It won't make it go away but you just get a little bit of relief.

6. I take Excedrin Migraine when I feel one coming on. Some times it helps sometimes it doesn't.

Talk to your dr. My sister in law is on a pill she takes twice a day she says it helps a lot. I'm already on so much meds for a bladder disorder we can't afford me to be on more meds. But this may work for you.

It also helps me to have my husband rub my head. So maybe your parents can do that for you.

God bless & I'll pray for you. I'm due a migraine any day now. I once had a HORRIBLE migraine. I was to the point of calling 911 since my husband was out of time and I had all 3 kids to tend to so a dark room as wasn't possible. I was in tears at times.

PS: I'm a homeschooling mom and into history. This may help you feel better. Back in the 1700's for headaches they'd drill a hole in your head thinking you had to much blood. Be glad we didn't live back then! Hope I made you smile. Hugs.
Call A Chiropracter maybe your backs out
i'm not a doctor but, i'm an expert at headaches
doctor told me: *get ur eyes checked out
*get plenty of sleep
* drink plenty of water
* DONT' STRESS TOO MUCH
THAT WAS MY PROBLEM STRESS
I hope that helps my friend
I occasionally have migranes. Before I get them, I get lots of signals from my body such as muscle weakness and feeling very tired. When I actually feel its onsent, I take 2-3 Tylonol (or Advil if necessary). That way, I can nip it in the bud. Sounds like you need to be in touch with what sets if off. Sometimes for me it's muscle tightness in my neck, or sometimes being very tired and stressed. Even too much light and perfumes can cause it. Suggest you think about keeping a log of what may set them off. Try taking some Advil and Tylonol is somewhat larger doses. Good luck and I feel sorry for you.
My doctor prescribed something called "Effexor XR." It's not cheap - over $200 for 90 caps. However, when I missed a morning, my migraine came back the next day and it was REALLY bad.

BTW, get a massage! Not does it feel good but tight muscles, etc... in your neck (meninges) and the back of your head don't help your situation.

I've dealt with headaches for almost 30 years so I know what you are going through! Good luck and SEE YOUR DOCTOR!
Talk to your doctor. There are lots of migraine medications you can try. Regulating hormones might help too (bc pills)

Do you get any warning signs that one is coming? Like visual disturbances (flickering, black spots, etc?) If so, try taking a prescription dose of ibuprofen before the headache starts. That works for me (but I'm lucky, it doesn't work for everyone).
migraines are swelling of the blood vessels in the eyes and head, that's why your eyes get so hard, and you get blind spots etc, there is a several new meds that you take as soon as you feel one coming on, i carry my attack pack at all times its called zomig, and as soon as i feel a trigger i take one, it can stop, or at least keep the swelling and pain down, they work wonderfully, to bad they didn't have these when i was a kid. there is nothing that works better, pain pills wont shrink the blood vessels, Ive tried it all, ask your doc about zomig?
I get them also and I get them so bad that I have to be in a room with the shades closed and I can't talk to anyone because of it. I take 800 mg of Ibuprofen and it helps a lot and that's what the doctor gave me to take. You should find out from the doctor what you acan take to get rid of them. I hope you are feeling better.
free_mark hit the nail on the head. the new prescription drugs for migraines are life savers. i, too, carry my maxalt (my drug of choice and similar to zomig) with me at all times. these drugs will usually knock out the headache within an hour or two. there are also several drugs that work to prevent migraines (some antidepressants and high blood pressure medications are commonly used). Most migraines are triggered from some environmental factor (food, dust, mold, etc) so figure out what is causing yours. migraines suck! thank god mine have become much less frequent as i have gotten older (i'm 31, but in my 20's i would get them on a weekly basis, now it's maybe every 3 months). btw, typically in a female your age migraines are almost always hormonally induced.
