How to get rid of lower back pain?
Question:
thanks!
Answers:
Yes...many remidies are just a bandaid. If I were your dad, first an appointment at the doctor to get three perscriptions: MRI, Pain Killer and Musle Relaxers. Depending upon the level of pain, there are two "sets" of medication that I have seen work well.
Skelaxin and Ultram are low grade muscle relaxer and pain medication. Percoset and Flexerol are much stronger medications. However, the doctor will decide what is best, but that was just so you could look into them before. Also, the doctor may recommend physical therapy...massage is good too.
What your dad can do here and now, is start taking some advil...whatever he decides is his business...Also, some light stretching if he can will help loosen up the muscles...Pilaties (yes...blah...blah) is a back-lengthening regime...Posture is important.
If he has pain shooting down his leg, it could be stemmimg from his Lumbar spine...the MRI will diagnose that.
Not to scare you...at all...but way in the future, if he for some reason can not resolve his issues and is told surgery will be neccessary, second and third opinions are mandatory...the last ditch effort before that is not covered under insurance. It is the "DRX 9000" machine and is usually found at pain centers. Basically, it is a traction machine with a computer attached.
Best of luck.
He needs to see a doctor. No one here can diagnose what part of his back has the problem. We don't know if it's a muscle strain, a ligament, disc or the sacroiliac joint. He needs medication--maybe an anti-inflammatory.maybe even Medrol (steroid) to reduce swelling in a joint. But he has to be seen to get the right medication.
Nearly 12 years of EMS lifting patients day in and day out I have had my fair share of back pain. Not a big fan of pain medications I looked for another drug free way of dealing with it. I found an awesome chiropractor. I swear by it, it worked wonders for me. In fact over half our staff sees a chiropractor. It really works. In the mean time some OTC Ibuprofen 600mg every 4-6 hours and ice 12 min every hour should help.
I'm a physical therapist and I think he should see a doctor and/ or physical therapist.
if he gets pain down his legs or none at all it could be sciatica
my doctor said to sit against the wall and rase your legs using your hands and dose up in ibuprofen.
I suffer lower back pain and I go to Physical therapy twice a week and take a pain medication that helps called Salsalate. tell him to go see his doctor and ask him if he thinks he needs some physical therapy. Also a heating pad helps. Good luck to your dad hope he gets well and hopefully I helped in some way!!
there's no cure for back injury's, but there are ways to make it so he can function, surgery, pain meds, stimulator implants, Tens etc, start with a doctor, xrays. cat scan its a long rough road, good luck with your dad
