carol is on crack. a low dose oral steroid could help but your doctor may not want to prescribe that for you as there are side effects. it sounds like the nerves are irritated and swollen. neurontin is a good drug and it is what i use (i do spine surgery for a living). to be honest time and a little rest are the best things for this, followed by some PT down the road. if it doesn't get better in about 3-4 weeks ask to get another MRI. sometimes things can work themselves loose after the surgery and you can have a completely diifferent problem.
Talk to a Neurologist. I know you recently had back surgery, but allow your back surgeon and a neurologist to have "a meeting of the minds" concerning the problem.
