How long do you wake up from general anesthetic after surgery?

Question:
I have to get surgery monday. It will take probably an hour or a little bit more than that. How long does it take you to wake up after the doctors are done with my surgery?

Answers:
I for wake up from the anesthesia pretty quickly--within 15 minutes to 1/2 an hour, so a lot really does depend on the individual. I have been told by anesthesiologists that I'm hard to keep under. I've had 4 surgeries, and every time they told me I was hard to keep down. I say an hour is a safe bet, but I remember from an earlier question you have a cyst on your wrist from an accident. However, the EFFECTS of the anesthesia stays with me for at least 2 weeks. I feel sluggish, tired, not mentally "sharp"--at little fuzzy. I sleep longer for a couple of weeks after surgery. You'll probably be on pain meds for a while and that may make you drowsy , too. Don't try to tough it out without the pain meds. Unless you have an addiction issue, take them as directed. I know they create less stress and, therefore, help you heal faster.
a few hours. depends on what they give you.
don't make any plans.
It's really hard to say as it can vary greatly from person to person. Heck, it can even vary with the individual. I had surgery about 3 years ago and was groggy and half out of it until around 11pm that night. But I had another surgery last summer and was totally coherant within 3-4 hours. I suppose it depends on the actual medication they use to put you under.
It depends on the kind of anesthetic that is used on you and the way your body handles it some can take a few minutes and other a few hours its just how your body acts to the drugs they give you. You also will be monitored while out of surgery so you will be ok after the surgery is done. SO don't stress on this at all its not good for you to stress before you go in for surgery.

Have a nice sleep...
depends on the sergery. probably anywere from 15- 60 minutes
