What happens when you step on a rusted nail?

Question:
I stepped on a hook.
Now what?

Answers:
I stepped on a rusty nail when I was a kid and nothing bad ever became of it; however, it is always better to play it safe. Call your nurse or doctor.
Possible outcomes are tetanus (aka "lockjaw")...its common association with rust is somewhat wrong. You probably have a better chance of getting an infection than tetanus. Nonetheless, it's always good to have a tetanus shot and boosters.

From wikipedia:
"Colloquially, tetanus is often associated with rust, especially rusty nails, but this concept is somewhat misleading. Objects that accumulate rust are often found outdoors, or in places that harbor anaerobic bacteria, but the rust itself does not cause tetanus nor does it contain more C. tetani bacteria. The rough surface of rusty metal merely provides a prime habitat for a C. tetani endospore to reside. An endospore is a non-metabolising survival structure that begins to metabolise and cause infection once in an adequate environment. Because C. tetani is an anaerobic bacterium, it, and its endospores, will thrive in an environment that lacks oxygen. Hence, stepping on a nail (rusty or not) may result in a tetanus infection, due to the ideal bacterial breeding ground provided by the low-oxygen environment of a puncture wound."
Pray you dont have gang green
I'm no doctor, but I'm pretty sure that you need a Tetanus Shot.
get a tetanus shot asap. tetanus makes you shake uncontrollably. u lose control of ur nervous system and will end up breaking ur neck and dying. get a tetanus shot and thats pretty much it.
go to the doctor if it becomes infected
Ouch. I did that last fall. Unless you have a recent tetanus shot, you'll need to get one. They are done at most walk-in clinics and aren't very expensive. You really need to get a tetanus shot within 72 hours. Make sure you wash out the wound very carefully. Rusty material can leave residue in your tissue that can cause infection. You'll know if it is getting infected because the surrounding skin will be more red, slightly warmer to the touch than the rest of your skin, and may develop reddish streaks around the wound. When you see a doctor, ask him to check for infection. My foot started getting infected within 24 hours and I had to have antibiotic shots and prescription antibiotics. Keep it clean and bandaged. Good luck!
go to a walk-in clinic tomorrow. you need a tetanus shot if you haven't had one in the last ten years. also-they might want to bandage it.
probably you need to get a tentius shot if you have not had one for a while. good luck
You should go to the doctor to get a tetanus shot immediately if you haven't had one in the past two or three years.
You wash it off with antibacterial soup put some neospporan on it and let it breath
