Answers:    "Double jointed" is an old way of describing joint that are more flexible than normal. The possession comes from the way folks can move their joints surrounded by ways that most of us can't. What you are describing is an indication of hypermobility, and if you want to practice yoga, that's fantastic. If you want to play other sports, especially with lots of jump or throwing, you need to stay as strong as possible to furnish those loosey-goosey joints as much stability and control as possible.
It isn't that you hold more than one joint. It is tha you own more freedom of movement in that selective joint. Unfortunately this is call being double jointed. If you have two joints surrounded by the same place it would truly prevent this behavior.
