Shallow hip sockets?

Question:
I am double jointed... like rather drastically!! But my hips have always sort of 'dislocated', not completely but kinda come out enough to cause huge pain and then snap back in again. Sometimes I have to pull them back myself, but the pain is excruciating. I have been the to docs several times, and they did an x ray and just said the structure was all normal but that I did have shallow hip sockets which made it easier for them to roll about or something. Said there was nothing they could do, but when I had my son, and he engaged 2 months early, I could hardly walk down the road for my hips coming out. I was literally walking to the hospital holding my left one in!! that was a year ago, and although better, I have general hip pain all the time and sounds silly but I have to hold my right one in sometimes when I'm having sex!!!
I've been to the docs but they still say theres nothing they can do, but its really getting me down. Is there anything I can do to help or strengthen it

Answers:
There is a syndrome called ehlers-danlos syndrome which means you have very slack ligaments. Having slack ligaments can lead to hip dysplasia, which is consistent with the symptoms you describe. I would go back to your GPs and explain how much this is effecting your life.

He will not be able to do much but should refer you to an orthopaedic consultant. They may offer you an operation called an osteotomy. If you do have hip dysplasia and don't have an osteotomy you may need a hip replacement at a very early age.

If your GP doesn't refer you, change GPs. From what you describe you need a specialist opinion.
no I don't think so.
