Have you ever had an IV in the hospital?
Question:
Answers:
First off, it's surgery (note spelling).
I've had IVs many times. No, they don't hurt. You hardly feel it. As long as you hold still (don't move), it will be over quickly. The only thing that hurts is when they peel the tape off to take it out.
EMT
As a diabetic and insulin pump user, I must insert an infusion needle into my abdomen once every 3 days. It doesn't hurt at all.
As for potassium infusion through an IV, that DOES hurt...it feels like fire in your vein...VERY painful.
Surgery on my tummy too. The IV was put in first than general anesthesia. It did not going in or coming out. I don't have issues with needles though .
The first time I had one, it hurt to have it put in, but I was so dehydrated it was hard to find a vein, I think that's why it hurt.
The second time I had one, when I came in to have my son, it didn't hurt at all
Had IV's in hospital on at least five occasions
and on the battlefield twice
None of them felt good -- but a couple of them were like taking a corkscrew up my arm !
Once when I had my son. I was not focused on the IV pain. But on the labor pain.
What a bunch of p u s s i e s you all sound like. IV's ain't squat. I've had quite a few. For some REAL pain, try getting an IV and then having potassium running through your arm. Now that is painful. It feels like a 1000 bees stinging you at once.(I had gotten food poisoning and was dehydrated). One time, there was this idiot Corpsman who took nearly an hour (after about 6 failed attemps) to finally get the needle into my bulging vein in my arm. I have big veins, and this Chowderhead had his head up his butt, cause he couldn't do it, so I fired him and told him to get his boss to do it. Anyways,
IV's are no big deal.
Yes, and it wasn't near as bad as I expected. I thought it was going to be really painful, but it was just a tiny little poke, like a little pinch. I was embarassed because I thouight it was going to kill..but it didn't. :-)
