Why does my nose bleed so much?
Question:
Answers:
It could be various things.
I was told when I was younger by a friend that if you have allergies your nose can bleed a lot and that can be a sign. I used to get nosebleeds all the time so I talked to my dr about getting tested for allergies and I had a lot of them at the time. I was given a prescription for a nasal spray (horrible stuff).
I was retested a few years later and I didn't have many allergies then and my nosebleeds had slowed down but what I had found was when the air is really dry I get nosebleeds really easily even today.
If they're really bad and really frequent, I would suggest talking to your dr about it as they may be able to do something for you.
Good luck.

NOTE: DannyArmy, not a good thing. That's what I always thought I was supposed to do was tilt my head back and let the blood run back but it's not good... you can choke (I've done it...) What I was told to do by the dr was tilt your head forward and pinch the bridge of your nose (somewhere on there up by the top) and it should stop it shortly. My nosebleeds were so bad at times it would be free flowing into the bathroom sink for anywhere from 2- 5 minutes.
See your doctor and they might be able to cure it
Tilt your head back, it's better to keep the blood in your body than to lose it, no matter where in your body it is. As for why? It could be a # of reasons. Not enough vit C or your vessels are probably thin and very weak due to allergies or bad diet. Maybe some medications you're on right now. As your doctor so he/she could get more in depth of what your problem could be.
Go to the DR it could mean you blood levels are low
red blood count
or platelets
it is very dangerous!
Ask them to run a CBC (complete blood count)
but it could be as simple as your allergies.
high blood pressure possibly.
You have a weak vein in your nose. Have the Dr. cauterize it. It does not hurt. They do it to small children when necessary.
My nose bled a lot last summer, i went to the doctor and it was because I had gotton a new air conditioner and it was more powerful and it dried out the air in my room, causing my nose to dry out and it to bleed, I just had to get used to the air conditioner, this summer, I'm fine. Maybe this is what happened to you, if you got a new a/c
It could be many things. Do you have high blood pressure? That's a likely cause. Are you on blood thinners such as Coumadin/Warfarin or Lovenox? If so, your INR could be too thin which can also cause nose bleeds among other types of bleeding
Also it could be that you don't have enough platelets in your blood (helps your blood clot).
I would see a doctor. Bleeding a lot is definitely bad for your health. It could be something simple or serious but you never know until you have it checked.
quit picking it.
Perhaps you need citrus bioflavonoids to strengthen your blood vessels.
First don't tip your head back. Swallowing the blood will only make you sick and then probably puke. Keeping the blood in your body this way is only going digest or like I said make you hurl. Pinching the nostrils may work, but if it is in the posterior nose it won't do crap. So if it doesn't after about an hour (unless bleeding is real bad) then go to a doctor. They can pack the nose.
Not saying it's you, but nose picking is one of the most common causes of bloody nose. Are you taking alot of cold medicines? Are you working in air conditioned area? They can dry out your mucus membranes and make it more prone to bleeding. Could also be high blood pressure, a weakened vessel, or about a dozen other common causes. High B/P needs a doc, as well as not being able to pin point why they are happening. But I think most causes are pretty easy to figure out. PS. They make a saline nose spray that you could use to keep the mucus membranes moist and help prevent nose bleeds. I always use it (in the winter especially.)
