What can I do for my cat, I think he has an abscess?
Question:
Answers:
Don't give him any pain killer designed for humans. Cats are extremely sensitive to it and he may die.
Cat's skin heals extremely fast so they are very prone to abscesses because the skin will heal faster then the tissue underneath. Take him to a vet. What he will do is open the skin over the abscess so it can drain. You will then have to keep it open so it can heal from the inside out. He may have you wash it out with sterile water or something like that a few times a day also. He will also probably give him antibiotics so the infection doesn't get worse.
He may also have pain killers that are appropriate for cats but never give an animal, especially cats, anything out of your medicine cabinet.
If he has a worm under the skin the vet will need to see it your cat so he can remove it. He may have to treat the cat depending on what kind of worm it is.
i think giving a cat a small dose of ibuprofan would be ok like maybe 25-50 mg if he looks like he is in pain but take him to the vet tomm. and they can tell you for sure
he needs to go to the vet and mayy need to stay in to have iv antibiotics -my cat did. Don't give him brufen or anything, they are really sensitive to it and you'll kill him or put him in agony
It could be another wound besides the one on his mouth that caused the abscess, but that's what it is. You can't do anything except get him to the vet, and in the future don't wait a whole day when he's injured.
If he isn't neutered, get it done-it will cut down on the fighting. Look him over frequently for wounds and if you find one , clean it well-it may not abscess. If you do notice swelling and tenderness, go to the vet.
