Question:
I hurt my wrist at the end of april of this year. my doctor believed it was a hematoma so they didnt do much but just give me meds. but month went by and it wasnt going away and the pain was still there. so they did surgery aug 6. of this year. when the doctor went in to do surgery he realized why i was in so much pain. it was because the nerves was all tangled up. so it been like that for months. he said the nerves stopped working because it was all wrap up in the hematoma/died tissue. he said my hand, wrist and arm will become numb at times in my life. and i wont be able to feel anything in my fingers sometimes as well. so does that mean this is a permenant injury? is it because it was so long and the nerves wasnt working? woul this be similar like Carpel tunnel syndrome?
Answers:
No because Carpal tunnel is very PAINFUL , and debilitating because hand function might be partially or even completely lost .
Your condition is similar to scar anesthesia , where a big scar in the skin like that resulting from surgery will be numb because of damage to SUPERFICIAL innervation . It is a nuisance but not very significant .
Sounds a lot like RSD (reflex sympathy disease)the body reacts to an injury by building up scar tissue restricting the nerve tunnels. The pain usually never goes away, but will be come more tolerable.Yes it is a permanent injury, but therapy is a must or you will lose strength in your tendons. It is similar to Carpal because of nerve pain and numbness. The build up of scar tissue is most of your problem.Talk with your Doc about manual release surgery.
