Hurts after going to physical therapy and massage.?

Question:
I have a really bad strained hamstring. It hurts real bad that I have to use crutches at times to walk. I've been to physical therapy 3 times and yesterday he massage it really hard for like 10 minutes right behind my knee. It was hurting really bad, but he said the scar tissue needs to be broken apart. It still hurts today where he massage it. feels like a finger is pushing in there and it's tender. He told me to do it several times a day. Is this normal that it still hurts?

Answers:
Breaking up the scar tissue is gonna be painful and the area is gonna be sore after. If the scar tissue is not broken up then the muscle will be prone to future strains. Try to stick it out b/c the PT seems to be doing a good job. Make sure that the PT is putting ice on the area afterwards for 15 mins...that may help some of the soreness.
Recovery usually involes more pain then the accident. Ive been thru it and it aint fun.But they know what their doing and you will feel better in the long run.
That could be true, but how did you find this person? Not all therapists are created equal. I'd recommend finding a registered yoga therapist (RYT) to work with - they can work miracles. Look at www.yogaalliance.org to find a school near you that might be able to refer you.
Massage does not mean pain. I think u need to tell him "thats too deep" period and stay at that. If there is scar tissue that needs to be broken up there will be some pressure but there does not need to be pain. I have some clients that when i barely touch them they are saying "too deep". YOU know your what your body can handle. Part of his job is to listen. I would agree that you need to work on that specific area several times a day. The more the better. But pain does not need to be a part of it
I have been going through physical therapy for 3 weeks now. I did hurt a lot after my first few sessions. Thats completely normal. I informed my therapist about this and he said its normal and it will eventually go away. Now when I go, I am still sore afterwards, but not in intense pain like I was at first. If you still hurt after about a week or 2 of thereapy, tell them. They might have to change your routine.
Some PTs have a 'no pain no gain' philosophy. You may need to have him back off a little and take it slower.

A few years ago I had surgery for a torn medial meniscus and the PT place my surgeon sent me to was a torture chamber. After two weeks of it both my knees were throbbing and swollen and the surgeon told me to stop going and do the exercises at home.
well, pain is on the way to recovery. no pain, no gain.
u just have to get used to it. once u r used to the ain, u will realise that you have already recovered
